NEWS YOU CAN USE FROM MRS. TOMASZEWSKI- NOVEMBER 6th

News You Can Use from Mrs. Tomaszewski

 November 12, 2020

 Dear Sacred Heart Parents,

NO SCHOOL TOMORROW DUE TO TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY

Just a reminder that there will be NO SCHOOL tomorrow, Friday, November 13th.  The teachers will be participating in a professional development day.  Enjoy the 3 day weekend and stay healthy and safe!

Family Mass on Sunday

Family Mass is this Sunday, November 15th at 9:30am.  Students are encouraged to attend if healthy and able to do so.  Please be sure to sign up for a seat at Mass on the Parish website at http://www.sacredheartcroatian.org/

Taffy Apple pick up

Taffy Apple and pretzel pick up will take place this Friday evening, as well as this Sunday after all Masses.  Pick up will be by the aftercare door, located in the northeast corner of the school parking lot.  For those coming on Friday, the FSA members will contact you with a specific time slot for you to arrive.  Otherwise, no appointment is needed to come after Masses.

Chicago Tonight TV Show

We did it!  We made the news on Chicago Tonight, Channel 11.  If you missed the episode, please click here to watch:  Amid COVID-19 Surge, CPS Timeline for In-Person Learning Unclear!  You can also Google “Chicago Tonight” and find it on their website.  Ironically, this news story was filmed before we ever had our first exposure case.  But, we figured it was going to happen at some point, it was simply a matter of when.  We have been very fortunate in the few instances that we have had, so I am grateful to God and to all of you for following the rules and keeping our students and our school safe!  Let’s hope that we move forward in a positive direction.  As you know, please remind your children to wash their hands, use hand sanitizer, keep their distance from others and do not gather with friends in large groups.  If everyone does their part, we will remain safe and healthy.  Soon we will be receiving air purifiers for every room and are going to be purchasing an additional disinfectant spray that can be applied to surfaces after cleaning for added protection.  We are doing our best to keep everyone healthy and safe.  Believe me when I say that none of us, including the teachers and staff, want to get sick or see any of our beloved students or their family members get sick.  Always remember to please keep your child home if they are feeling under the weather.  Thank you for your support!

Discover Catholic Schools Week

This past week we celebrated Discover Catholic Schools Week.  It was a wonderful week of showcasing our school in a variety of ways!  Check out a video created by our Student Council members, we are so proud of their work! It is posted on our Facebook page and our school website so be sure to take a look!

Volunteer Hours

During normal times, when there is not a pandemic, each family is obligated to complete 25 hours of volunteer service to Sacred Heart School/Parish as a part of your tuition contract. Any hours not completed result in a $20 per hour fee  At this time, due to the Covid-19 situation, we are temporarily reducing the number of hours to 10 hours this year because of the lack of opportunities available for us to gather. Any hours not completed will result in your family being charged $20 per hour. We will evaluate the situation and make adjustments as time goes on should the situation change and restrictions are lifted.  For now, you have two options available to volunteer.  The first is to work at a weekend Mass.  Your responsibilities would be to arrive early to greet people and spray everyone’s hands with sanitizer.  After Mass, the pews that were used would then be cleaned and sanitized.  The second opportunity would be to work at school lunch.  We would allow 2 people per day.  Your responsibilities would be to monitor students, walk around with the garbage cans and help clean tables and chairs after students have eaten.  Sorry, NO small children may be brought with you during the lunch periods. The time for lunch volunteers would be from 11am-12pm.  Click here to volunteer for lunch:  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050B4DADA62DA6FD0-december To volunteer to help at Mass click the link below  and indicate in the comments that you are signing up to help and receive volunteer hours:  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050b4dada62da6fd0-sunday

Thank you, in advance, for your service to our school and parish.  We greatly appreciate your commitment to Sacred Heart!  As more projects and opportunities become available, I will post them in my newsletter, which you can always view on our website.

Eligible students from low-income families in Illinois may use these scholarships to attend a non-public school of their choice, including Sacred Heart School. For every dollar donated to this program through Empower Illinois between Dec. 1, 2019 and Feb. 29, 2020 and designated to a school operated by the Archdiocese of Chicago will be matched with two dollars from a matching pool....Click here for more information
