NEWS YOU CAN USE FROM MRS. TOMASZEWSKI FOR SEPTEMBER 23, 2020

News You Can Use from Mrs. Tomaszewski

 September 23, 2020

 Dear Sacred Heart Parents,

My weekly newsletter will usually be sent on Fridays, however, this week there is no school on Friday.  Teachers will be participating in Professional Development on that day.  Also, so that you are aware, I will be out of the office tomorrow, Thursday, September 24th due to a meeting.  I am a member of a Leadership program through the University of Notre Dame for Catholic School Principals in the Archdiocese of Chicago.  The group is a part of the Center for Educational Leadership (CTEL).  We are having our first outdoor in-person meeting since the pandemic began.  I am lucky and proud to be a part of this leadership program as it helps me to learn and grow in my leadership role.  Please keep myself and the other Principals in your prayers as we continue on our journey to improve ourselves and make our schools the best they can be!

NO School on Friday

Just a reminder that there is NO school this Friday, September 25th.  The teachers will be participating in Professional Development opportunities.

Reminder about Thursday folders

Just a reminder that EVERY Thursday when the Thursday folder comes home, PLEASE have a parent sign inside the folder. This ensures us that  you have seen the contents we are providing to you each week.  We thank you for your cooperation!

Progress Reports

Believe it or not, we are now at the half-way point in the First Quarter of the school year!!  Progress reports are being sent home in the Thursday folder.  Please keep one copy and sign the second copy and return it to school.  As always, if you have any concerns regarding your child’s progress in school, please contact your child’s teacher as soon as possible.  Teachers will be reaching out, also, as needed throughout the year.  We are here to help your child succeed, so please keep the lines of communication open!

Calendar

The October Calendar is attached.  Please look it over to stay up to date on all that is happening next month here at Sacred Heart School!

Home Language Survey

Please fill out and return the home language survey that you will find in the Thursday folder.  It is also attached to this newsletter.  If ANY language, other than English, is spoken in the home, it is vital that you fill out the form and return it to school.  This will help our school to qualify for all eligible Title funds from the state in order to help our students receive services or materials this year.  We thank you for your assistance with this matter.

 Dental Van

The Dental Van is coming to Sacred Heart school on Thursday, November 19th.  If you are interested in registering your child for this service, please complete the form and return it to school as soon as possible.  The form is in the Thursday folder and is also attached to this email.

Asbestos

As per the law, all schools are required to be inspected for Asbestos every 3 years.  Sacred Heart was inspected last year.  Each year, we are asked to send out a letter to parents informing them of the Asbestos content and management plan for our school.  Please see the attached letter regarding this matter.

 Fundraising requirement

This year, each family is required to meet the $350 mandatory fundraising fee through a variety of fundraising efforts.  There are a few upcoming opportunities for helping you reach that goal.

  • Purchase $10 raffle tickets for the parish raffle (being held on 10/4). This is the raffle that was postponed from the summer fest. If you already bought tickets last spring, they will be put in the drum and included in the raffle. Tickets are available at the rectory or in the convent from Mrs. Verdi. There are $7,000 in prizes to be won!  Get your tickets today!  For every $10 ticket purchased or sold, your family will be credited $5 toward the fundraising fee.
  • In the Thursday folder yesterday, tickets were sent home and we ask you to do your best to try to help us sell them! Thank you!
  • Get sponsors to pledge your child(ren) for the upcoming walk-a-thon on Wednesday, October 14th! Families are asked to obtain a minimum of $30 in pledges per child.

Water and Soda Donations needed...get a dress down pass for your donations!

On Sunday, October 4th, Sacred Heart Parish is sponsoring a carry-out BBQ of Shish-ka-bobs, Croatian Sausage, salad and bread for $12.00 per dinner.  There will also be cake, pastries, coffee and other cold beverages for sale.  FAMILY Mass will also be on October 4th at 9:30am.  Sales will begin after the 9:30am Mass and continue until 1pm.  This event is being held to help replace some of the funds lost due to not being able to have the annual Parish festival this summer.  How can you help???   If you send your child to school with a 24 pack (or larger) of bottled water OR a 24 pack of soda (or 2-12 packs), you will get a dress down pass.  For each 24 pack of beverages donated, a dress down pass will be given.  Please send all donations by no later Friday, October 2nd.

TAX CREDIT & MATCHING GIFT PROGRAM

The State of Illinois created a tax credit scholarship program through the “Invest in Kids” Act that is mutually beneficial to students and donors. It provides a 75 percent Illinois State income tax credit to individuals who contribute money to fund scholarships for students to attend private schools. Eligible students from low-income families in Illinois may use these scholarships to attend a non-public school of their choice, including Sacred Heart School. For every dollar donated to this program through Empower Illinois between Dec. 1, 2019 and Feb. 29, 2020 and designated to a school operated by the Archdiocese of Chicago will be matched with two dollars from a matching pool....Click here for more information
